How to pick the right surfboard leash?
Match the length
The simple rule: your leash should be about the same length as your board, or round up if you are in between. A 6'0 shortboard takes a 6ft leash; a 6'6 takes a 7ft. Longboarders go 8ft to 10ft, often on a calf or knee cuff.
Cord thickness
Thinner competition cords (roughly 5mm to 6mm) have less drag for small, clean days, while regular leashes (around 7mm to 9mm) hold up in bigger New Zealand surf.
